CPA / EA Referral Partner

Partnership, not a job

This is a relationship, not a position. There is no salary, no schedule, and no employment. You keep your practice and your clients; Basis offers the ones who own commercial or short-term rental property a free estimate and, if they want one, an engineered study.

How the relationship works
  • You introduce an owner who holds commercial, investment, or short-term rental property, or you tell the owner to mention you.
  • Basis runs a free, property-level Preliminary Benefit Estimate. If the owner wants a study, licensed engineering partners perform it under the Basis name, aligned to the IRS Cost Segregation Audit Techniques Guide.
  • The owner's CPA or EA prepares and files the return. Basis never files returns and does not give tax advice, and it routes any return question back to the owner's CPA or EA.
  • Basis tells owners plainly when a study is not worth doing.
What Basis will not do
  • Market to your clients. Nobody is added to a list because you introduced them.
  • Quote a referred owner differently. A referred owner gets the same quote as anyone else.
Referral compensation and professional rules

Where referral compensation applies, Basis pays it out of its own fee, and it does not change what the owner owes.

Whether a CPA or EA may accept a referral fee depends on the rules that apply to you and to that client, including any attest work your firm does for the client. Your state board and your firm decide what you can accept. If a fee is not open to you, tell us and we structure the relationship another way, including with no fee at all.
